PRIORITIES

Ron Blum is making a feeble attempt to convince the community that his personal vendetta against the airport is justified, and that St. Clair cannot thrive if it remains the sponsor of the airport.   The city has an obligation to the Federal Government, and this cannot be overridden by his personal preferences.  The obligation to the community does not override the Federal obligations.   Ron Blum is marketing the concept that the city cannot afford the airport, and that the only solution is closure.  If the city cannot afford to operate the airport, it has another option, find another sponsor for the airport.  The city does not have to be the sponsor.  The obligations are transferable.   Retail development is nowhere in site, and the continued efforts to destroy the airport have backfired on Ron Blum’s plan.   The city should seek to turn over the airport to another party.

  1. Keep up the good work, St. Clair Airport. We have exactly the same situation in play at our county airport except that you are about two or three years ahead of us. The commissioners are not approving grants, allowing the facility to deteriorate, and are now trying to choke the airport financially by diverting money generated on airport land to the general fund. It's like they are reading all of your newspaper articles-a literal carbon copy. Don't give up the fight. We're in there fighting with you!

  2. We need to talk. Where is your airport? If you leave another comment with your phone #, I will not publish it in order to keep your # private. All comments are previewed before publishing.

  3. SCA,
I intend to call Jim D this weekend. I found his phone number in one of the chapter 16 complaint documents. I like the strategies you have pursued re informal and formal complaints but don't want to tip off our opponents as to what we are going to do. Search recent AOPA mags. They have us listed as one of several endangered airports AOPA has been actively supporting (but our politicians have been ignoring their letters. IMHO, AOPA is a somewhat ineffective organization when it comes to these things.

Last night I read every blog comment available. It is uncanny how your situation parallels our except that we are a larger county airport with an instrument approach. Our pols have not filed an application for closure yet but they are building the public support and documentation. More later and thanks for responding.
