EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT
The reporter for a local news publication apparently has accused two
individuals of unwarranted and unfounded
attacks on Mayor Ron Blum and stated the these same individuals had
previously filed complaints with MoDOT and The FAA, as if it is wrong to file a
complaint with the FAA. One of the
individuals has not filed any complaints with the FAA or MoDOT. If the facts were unfounded, Why did Blum go to the county and pay the taxes?
You had to be real quick to read about it online, because
the article has been removed from the online source, and updated. The local news publication has admitted to incorrectly
reporting the facts. What appears to
have happened was that the local news publication was trying to protect Ron
Blum from a potentially embarrassing situation, and possible a legal nightmare. To make
the claim to have incorrectly interpreted what Copeland said is hard to
believe. It is a long way between having
to pay taxes on personal property if you own it, and not having to pay taxes on
it if you are not using it. This is
common knowledge and again has the appearance that the local news publication
is trying to protect the mayor. The
updated article is now saying that it is taken care of, and the matter is
closed. The matter of the taxes might be
closed, but what did the mayor sign when he declared his running for
office? Also assets were transferred from
a corporation to a private individual, according to the DOR, sales taxes are
due on the transfer of these assets.
The article also claimed that a phone call to the county
assessor confirmed that Ron Blum did not need to pay taxes on personal property
because it was not being used. The article
did not state who made the phone call. To
claim a have incorrectly interpreted comments from Copeland is ridiculous. This goes to show how far the local news
publication will go to protect the mayor, even when it is obvious that they
know better. To think that this
explanation would stand up and to print it and expect the public to believe it
shows what little respect the city and the reporter have for the intelligence
of the general public.
This might have been an oversight, on the mayor’s part, no
big deal; but to claim that taxes were not due because it is not being used, and
to claim that the assessor agreed to this, and to get it printed in the
newspaper, that’s another matter altogether.
This shows how much influence city hall has over what is reported in the
newspaper.
This appears to be a situation of the local news
publication, lying to cover up something that the mayor has done, or did not do. Why would someone do this?
Phone calls to the county assessor later on confirmed that
he was mis-quoted in the article.
This article was more concerned with who is making trouble
for the mayor, than about the issue of the unpaid taxes. The next piece on this should be about the
filing for the mayor’s office. Did Ron
Blum make a false statement when he filed for mayor? Did he commit perjury? The reporter should look into this document
and print the facts. Did Ron Blum owed
taxes when he ran for mayor?
The last four paragraphs of the article refer to the airport
and the closure and are obviously trying
to move the focus of this night mare and make it look like a couple of individuals
are just trying to cause trouble because of the city’s attempt to close the
airport. It is obvious that the entire purpose of the
article is to divert attention from the fact that Ron Blum could possibly have
violated the law and should not be the mayor of St. Clair.
We will be sending letters to Kirt Voss and Robert Parks along with letters to the state.
ReplyDeleteSame old one sided reporting from the Missourian. The paper only says that the Mayor has now paid his taxes and the case is closed. WRONG!!! The fact is that he did not pay the taxes for at least 4 years and ran for a municipal office. So the case is not closed by a long shot. He has cheated the good people of St Clair and Franklin Co all the while he claims we need a strip mall to bring in tax money. And the paper should be ashamed of themselves for defending him. If he is not smart enough to know he had to pay tax then he is not smart enough to run a city.
ReplyDeleteIs the Mayor really that stupid? Do the people of St Clair need this kind of leadership? What else is this tax cheat hiding. What about the rest of the people running the city, are they like him ?
ReplyDeleteIf the newspaper and Mayor think that the pilots are standing in the way of their shopping mall, they are more off center than we all thought.
ReplyDeleteThe newspaper still can't get the facts right. The Mayor was caught in wrong doing and they make him out to be the good guy. The story should read THE HONORABLE RON BLUME IS NOT SO HONORABLE. He should be forced to resign. That is the law. Oh but I forgot, laws do not mean anything.
ReplyDeleteThe news paper is putting all their money on the wrong horse.
ReplyDeleteThe newspapers story on the tax cheat is like reading a comic book. Domke and the newspaper must think everybody is stupid and can't see the incompetence and arrogance in trying to cover up the law that was broken.
ReplyDeleteTypical small town politics, always has one or two hypocrites and somebody with their hand in the cookie jar.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a botched conspiracy attempt. Did these two plan this stupid idea together? If they did what on God’s green earth made them think that there is anyone out there that would believe this story. It is obvious that these two think the readers of this local news publication are really stupid.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason to do something this stupid is desperation. Did Blum break the law, and should he be disqualified from the mayor’s office?
What is so hilarious is that this was the best plan they could come up with: mis-quoting the assessor’s office?
I certainly hope Mr Blum is having a happy Fathers Day squirming around in his easy chair trying to figure out how he’s going to get out of this one.
ReplyDeleteOh don't worry its the pilots at the airport that cause Mayor Blum not to pay taxes on his equipment that he has been using. Isn't there an ordinance in city limits about to much equipment on your property? His neighbors got tickets. Sorry I forgot he is exempt from all rules and regulations. He has made this town a joke.

DeletePeople are starting to see the truth about Blum and Domke. They think people are to stupid to figure them out.
ReplyDeleteI like how the Missourian reports that Blum has went in and paid his taxes and the issue is closed. What they failed to report is that if he was not caught he still would not have paid and he should not have ran for Mayor. The Missourian newspaper only tells the public what it wants them to know not what is really going on. Controlling the information people get is unprofessional and wrong. I hope people will keep this in mind before the speed money on their paper
ReplyDeleteI think you all should read the article a little more carefully. The article actually states that COPELAND said that the case is closed.

DeleteThe assessor assess the property, the collector collects the taxes. Neither office has anything to do with the elections or the qualifications of the candidates. The article also states that Ron Blum paid the taxes therefore the property would belong to him, and he owed taxes on the last day of filing for office.
DeleteYes Blum finely paid his back taxes he cheated the schools, fire dept, police dept and every taxpayer out of for years, so your right anonymous this case is closed.
DeleteMr Copeland might have said it is closed on his end, but it doesn't change the fact that he did not tell the truth about not paying his taxes on the last day of filing for office. The fact is, Blum should not have been the mayor the last time he ran. The fact is he has cheated on his taxes at least back to 2008. The fact is the Missourian/Domke won't print anything bad about Ron Blum, but I'am sure another creditable news source will be interested in the story. People see the one sided stories the Missourian prints in favor of the honorable Mayor Ron Blum. I wonder how the paper will look when the real story hits the newsstand. We shall see.
ReplyDeleteMr Copeland does not make the call on what's right or wrong, the law does, and Mr Domke should know that. Mr Copeland just said that Blum came in and paid his back taxes ( that wouldn't be paid if he didn't get caught ) but that doesn't clear him of wrong doing for at least 5 years.
