MODOT LETTER

March 22, 2013
Mr. Jim Johnson
Airports Division Manager
FAA Central Region
901 Locust
Kansas City, MO 64106

Re: St. Clair Regional Airport

Dear Mr. Johnson:

For the past several years, the City of St. Clair has pursued closure of the St. Clair Regional Airport. During this time, MoDOT worked closely with the Federal Aviation Administration and the City to identify alternatives to closure, but these efforts have not impacted the City’s desire to close the airport.
Because the City has made its desire clear, MoDOT will not oppose the City’s request to close the airport. However, all federal airport closure requirements must be met by the City.
Sincerely,

  2. Notice Though that you have as CC: McCaskill,
    Blunt,Luetkemeyr,and Hinson.
Which means MODOT had no choice to tell the city what it did, because Politicians, Espicially
Republicans are ALL for business. And the city
say's they want to put at the airport property
a shopping center. I understand it's not allowed
to pay the Obligations with the sale of the airport.

  3. MODOT had no choice but to NOT OPPOSE the Airport closer Because ,look at the letter CC: McCaskill,
    Blunt, Luetkemeyer, and Hinson. Politicians,
Espicially Republicans are for Business. And the city wants to make it a shopping center.
I understand that the city's Obligations cannot be paid from the sale of the Airport land.

  4. Boy, MODOT sure picked their words carefully. There is a lot to read between the lines, but they essentially put the ball back in the FAA's court.

    1. I understand all of it. It just seems to me the only ones that don't understand it are the St. Clair city council and that rag they call a newspaper in St. Clair MO.

    1. Tim, I guess you don't remember all my previous posts I have made on this blog. (most of them are gone since all the old blogs are deleted)I do in fact live in the city and am against the airport closing. I think you misunderstood what I was saying. MODOT seems very frustrated with the city in the fact that they are not taking any of the help that they are offering it to make the airport profitable. It seem that that are giving up with dealing with Blum and putting all the power back to the FAA to make the city clean up its act.

  7. Dumpsey ... you're nothing but a desperate clown! Yes, the MoDOT letter says the city must be in compliance in regards to the airport. But, it also says our state transportation agency WILL NOT oppose closure. The point is that you no longer have MoDOT as one of your crutches. In fact, you probably never did. ... And now we hear that you desperate pilots met with the city about airport hangar rates and after causing all the ruckus and having a pity party for yourselves you said you now will pay your hangar rate. Wow. Only three months late there! You're such crybabies. ... True, MoDOT is not the final authority in this, but the FAA asked our state agency to make a recommendation, and it has — to NOT OPPOSE closure. And with the sequester in Washington, D.C., and with the state now behind the city's closure request, it's going to be bye-bye birdies. If you want it in layman's terms, the FAA has found its scapegoat in MoDOT and now will say the airport can close on the recommendation from the state of Missouri.

    1. I think it all comes down to this... "Thou shalt not steal Federal tax monies for thine own pet projects"

    2. I don't believe that MODOT has ever made a recommendation either way. They have tried to work with the city to bring the airport into compliance regarding FAA compliance issues and the OIG investigation. But because the city has not done anything regarding the issues, MODOT will no longer oppose the city's efforts. That is not a recommendation to close, nor are they "behind" either party. if you read their past letters, they are very clear bout what the City had do and still must do. The city must still deal with all the compliance issues, but now they must figure it out on their own unless they accept MODOTs offer and guidelines. The FAA still as closure proceedings on hold until the city is in compliance. And in regards to the Hangar rates, yes the pilots and the city ave negotiated new contract terms. The issue was not all about the rate, which by the way the City brought down from $300 to $175 because it was not reasonable. Why are we crybabies for trying to negotiate items that were unreasonable and are not part of contracts for any other nearby airport?

  8. I find it fantastically funny that there are no comments on the Missourian on this issue and all of them being on this blog.
Lets see if anybody comments on the Missourian after this post on the blog.

  11. As a tenant of the airport I obviously follow this blog with eagerness to learn the latest information regarding the closure of the airport. When this blog first started, I could rely on it to be filled with factual information, albeit presented in a passionate way by those who desire the airport to remain open. Over the last several months I have seen this passion deteriorate to name calling and mud slinging from both sides of the issue. Honestly, I think it is embarrassing for all parties involved. I understand the emotional, personal, and financial stake for those involved, but I hope everyone can try and temper their emotions, or at the very least, treat each other with the dignity and respect that we all deserve. "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." - Ephesians 4:29. And by the way, my name is David Spencer. Thank you.
